iPhone and iPad (Safari and Chrome)
- Open Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Location Services, and make sure it is on.
- In the same list, tap Safari Websites (or Chrome), choose While Using the App or Ask Next Time Or When I Share, and turn on Precise Location.
- If you blocked this site in Safari, tap the aA or page menu icon in the address bar, choose Website Settings, and set Location to Ask or Allow.
- Reload the page and tap Find me again.
Android (Chrome, Samsung Internet)
- Pull down the quick settings panel and make sure Location is on.
- Open Settings, Apps, your browser, Permissions, Location. Choose Allow only while using the app and turn on Use precise location.
- If you blocked this site in Chrome, tap the icon to the left of the address, then Permissions or Site settings, and set Location to Allow.
- Reload the page and tap Find me again.
Windows (Chrome, Edge, Firefox)
- Open Settings, Privacy and security, Location. Turn on Location services and Let desktop apps access your location.
- In Chrome or Edge, click the site information icon to the left of the address and switch Location on. In Firefox, click the permissions icon in the address bar and clear the blocked location permission.
- Keep Wi-Fi switched on. A computer without GPS finds itself by the Wi-Fi networks around it.
Mac (Safari, Chrome, Firefox)
- Open System Settings, Privacy and Security, Location Services. Turn it on, and turn it on for your browser in the list.
- In Safari, open Safari, Settings, Websites, Location, and set this site to Ask or Allow.
- In Chrome or Firefox, use the icon to the left of the address, as on Windows.
Why the browser will not ask again
Browsers remember a refusal so that sites cannot nag you. Once you choose Block, the page is not allowed to show the prompt again until you change the setting yourself using the steps above. Private or incognito windows forget the choice when you close them.
Location only works on secure pages, those whose address starts with https. Every page on this site is served over https, so if you see a security warning, check that you typed the address correctly.
If you would rather not share your location
You do not have to. Every tool on this site also works from a typed address, a ZIP code or a pair of coordinates. Type into the search box and press Look up. Nothing about your own position is used.
